There is so much more to being a teacher than just liking children. There are several things that you need to consider when you are thinking about becoming a teacher.
First, you need to think about the skills that a teacher has. Many teachers are creative and patient but can also be firm. The fact of teaching is, is that you will be teaching a large group of children on a daily basis. Not all children are the same, and not all children learn the same. Therefore you need to be creative. You need to be capable of thinking up new and exciting ways to get your students interested in learning. However, you need to be firm enough to handle a large group of children in case the kids get to loud, but patient enough to work with children when they need extra help. It is the combination of these strengths that makes a great teacher. Think about if you have this type of skill set.
Many times, a teacher is more than just a teacher, they are a confidaunt and advocate. There will be many times in your teaching career when you will dealing with a student who comes from a bad home life. If you suspect something is happening you need to be able to handle is appropriately and be there for the child. For many children, their teacher is the first person they are with all day besides their mother, you need to be nurturing and caring as well.
